Dr. Oz says his in-laws introduced him to the infrared sauna, which is slightly different than a normal sauna. "It makes the same rays that come from the sun and filters out the UV radiation, so it only gives you the infrared radiation," he says. "That radiation that's infrared goes a little bit into your skin so, without heating you up and the external environment too much, it heats the body up."
After a few minutes in the sauna, Oprah says she's starting to feel the heat. Dr. Oz says the high temperature helps lower blood pressure and increase blood circulation. The energy output from the far infrared sauna corresponds so closely to the body's radiant energy that our bodies absorb 96% of the energy.  "It gets your heart to beat faster,
and it burns calories," Dr. Oz says. "It raises your metabolism a little bit, and also when you sweat, you sweat out toxins through the skin."
Infrared Sauna
Infrared heaters warm the body in the same manner as natural sunlight. FIR heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally.  FIR heat provides many of the health benefits of natural sunlight without any of the dangerous effects of solar radiation.
Traditional steam saunas raise the temperature of the air to a very high level within the chamber to warm the body. Some people have difficulty breathing in this extremely warm air. FIR saunas work differently. Instead of heating the air within the enclosure, FIR saunas heat the body directly. The result is deeper tissue penetration.
In the FIR sauna, the body perspires and receives all of the healthy benefits but avoids the harmful and extremely hot air of a traditional steam sauna. FIR saunas are safe for all ages.
Why Is FIR important to the human body?
FIR has the ability to penetrate, refract, radiate and reflect. The human body can absorb FIR because of its deep penetrating ability. When FIR penetrates through skin to the subcutaneous tissues, it transforms from light energy into heat energy. The thermal effect within the deep layers of the tissues causes bloods vessels and capillaries to dilate, promoting a better blood circulation, and the heat so produced helps to get rid of body toxins and metabolic wastes through sweating.
Far Infrared Sauna Therapy FAQ’s:
Q.  What is Far Infrared Sauna (FIR)?
A.  The electromagnetic spectrum is divided into three segments by wavelength measured in microns.  5.6 to 1000 microns is "far" infrared.  This invisible band of light warms objects without warming the air between the source and the object.  For example, about 80% of the sun's rays fall into the infrared range.  (This is very different than harmful ultraviolet rays!!)  When you go outside on a cold winter day, you can feel the warmth of the sun on your face.  The heat you feel is created when the rays of far infrared light enters your body.  Our bodies radiate far infrared energy through the skin.  Palm healing, which has been practiced in China for 3,000 years, is based on the natural healing properties of far infrared.
Q.  How does FIR therapy work?
A.  It duplicates the healthy far infrared frequencies.  Tissues selectively absorb these rays as the water in the cell reacts in a process called "resonant absorption".  Resonant absorption occurs when the frequency of the far infrared matches the frequency of the water in the cell causing the toxins to be dropped off in the blood stream and excreted.
Q. What is involved with having a sauna FIR treatment?
A.  Essentially, you will undress and entire the sauna (which will be pre-heated). You will be given water, towels and instructions on the use of the sauna. At that time you will sit down inside the sauna, get yourself situated and begin the heating up process. You can have the light on or off, or you can listen to the stereo or even read a book. Some people simply choose to be quiet and meditate while their having treatment.
There are several things that the client is required to do for his
           sauna treatment:
*Drink plenty of water before, during and after their session.
*Be prepared to get hot, sweat and detox during the session.
*Sit back, relax and enjoy every deep heating, deep tissue-detox moment.
Q.  What should I expect after the sauna session?
A.   It feels wonderful. You should expect to feel relaxed, renewed, rejuvenated and very calm.
Q.   Will I sweat at all during the first session?
A.    Some people who are used to detox, saunas  and/or sweating a lot, will actually sweat from beginning to end of their sauna. Others who are not used to it, may take 10-20 minutes in the heat of the sauna before they begin to sweat. But eventually, everyone sweats and sweats a lot. We will provide you with water and towels for each session you have.
Q.  Are there any contradictions to FIR sauna therapy?
A.  Yes, if you have hemophilia, MS, are pregnant (or are a nursing mother), or if you are currently seeking medical attention and are on drugs for a specific condition, you should not use far infrared sauna therapy.
Q.  How long is a session?
A.  20 - 30 minutes.  It depends on the temperature you can tolerate and your experience level.  Of course, water, music and towels are supplied.
Q.    Do I wear clothes while having a sauna session?
A.    Not usually. You will be sweating so much, as a result from the dry high heat, that you will probably not feel comfortable wearing clothes at all. If so you choose, you may wear a pair of shorts and tee shirt, if it makes you feel more comfortable.
Q.  What can far infrared sauna therapy do for me?
A.The beneficial side effects may include:  stimulation of the immune system, detoxification, cardiovascular conditioning, weight loss, calorie expenditure, cellulite reduction, decrease in stress levels, excretion of heavy metals and pain relief.
The last century has seen our environment become overloaded with toxins. Documented hazardous pesticides and insecticides continue to cause us chronic health problems, even after they have been banned from further use. In the soil DDT and chlordane residues persist and continue to add to the increased cancer rates in our industrial, modernized world by seeping into our food and water supplies.
Toxins do the damage, and far Infrared saunas help with damage control. Saunas help to accomplish detoxification in the following manner: A layer of fat and oil exists just below the surface of the skin. Far Infrared heat from the sauna increases the skin temperature, causing those fats and oils to "melt" and move out of the skin's oil glands. As sweat and oil are secreted, the toxins dissolved in them are secreted as well. By excreting these toxins and then washing them off your body, your toxic load is lowered and cellular health improves.

Removes Toxins
Increased blood circulation stimulates the sweat glands, releasing built-up toxins and waste. Daily sweating can help detoxify the body as it rids itself of an accumulation of potentially carcinogenic heavy metals (lead, mercury, nickel, cadmium) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sodium, sulfuric acid and cholesterol.

  • Firms and improves skin tone and elasticity

Pain Relief
The far infrared energy released by an infrared sauna can penetrate 1.5" to 2” deep into muscle tissue. 93% of the Far Infrared energy is absorbed through our skin. By heating these tissues, pain may be relieved via the reduction of attendant or secondary muscle spasms. We experience a vasodilatation of peripheral blood vessels which can be beneficial in reducing muscle spasms, joint stiffness and achiness, as well as general aches and pains due to conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, neck and back pain, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. There is also evidence that when used 24-48 hours post injury, far infrared energy can reduce the time it takes for your body to heal sprains and strains. Pain is also at times related to ischemia due to tension or spasm which can be improved by the hyperthermia that heat-induced vasodilatation produces, thus breaking the feedback loop, in which the ischemia leads to further spasm and then more pain.
Relief from Fibromyalgia
The pain of fibromyalgia is typically felt in the neck, back, shoulders and hands, but it is not exclusive to those areas. Based on criteria set in 1990 by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), a diagnosis of fibromyalgia requires a patient to have experienced widespread pain for a minimum of three months in 11 of 18 tender muscle sites. Among those 18 sites are the hips, knees and rib cage. Other symptoms of fibromyalgia include allergies, anxiety, carpal tunnel syndrome, depression, dizziness, headaches, irritable bowel symptoms, numbness, and tender skin. The ACR estimates that fibromyalgia affects as many as 6 million Americans. Most sufferers of fibromyalgia are women of childbearing age, but it has also been known to strike men, children and the elderly. Far Infrared sauna therapy provides relief from all of the following symptoms and complications of fibromyalgia:
•Insomnia •Chronic Fatigue •Joint Pain •Headaches •Depression •Carpal Tunnel •Dizziness •Anxiety •Irritable Bowel
Cardiovascular Health
Relax and get your heart in shape!
According to the American Heart Association (2005), clinical trials demonstrated that maintaining healthy blood pressure can dramatically reduce the risk of strokes by 35% to 40%, heart attacks by 20% to 25% and heart failure by over 50%. However, these statistics are just the tip of the iceberg.
Maintaining blood pressure levels within a normal range eases the workload on your heart and blood vessels. As blood pressure rises, the risk of cardiovascular events becomes “continuous, consistent, and independent of other risk factors” (American Heart Association 2005). Far Infrared sauna makes for a promising therapy for people who are otherwise not capable of exerting themselves or do not follow an exercise or conditioning program to attain a cardiovascular training effect.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is often characterized by a deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals.  Often, the end result is an excessive accumulation of mercury and other toxic heavy metals in various organs of the body.  These toxic metals are found in increasing amounts in our environment and food and in dental amalgams.  Toxic metals are absorbed and replace the vital elements when there is a deficiency of the good minerals.
Stress Relief & Relaxation
Surround yourself in the warm Far Infrared Rays of our new Carbon 360 technology and relax in a Infrared Sauna. Feel the stress of the day melt away. You will experience increased circulation that triggers the release of endorphins, loosening tight muscles and making you feel better all over. When we are stressed we actually tense our muscles as we hurry through our day or worry about the outcome. Holding tension in our bodies works as a heavy weight of premature aging on our system. We burden our nervous system, muscle tissue, cardiovascular, respiratory and our elimination system with our relentless stress level, fast paced diet, and irregular sleep patterns.
Tissue Elasticity
Caring for your skin appropriately is paramount in your resistance to various skin maladies such as eczema, athlete’s foot, acne, and other skin disorders. The prolific sweating attained in an infrared sauna carries off deeply imbedded impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin glowing and flawlessly clean. Skin tone and elasticity are enhanced, and maladies such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns and roughness are relieved. Also, keloids develop at a reduced rate in those susceptible to their formation, and can be softened if they have already formed.
It is important to note, that while an infrared sauna can enhance the normal bioprocesses associated with the skin, maintaining a healthy complexion goes far beyond ritualistic sauna treatments. The skins outward appearance often mirrors the body’s internal health. Other factors, such as diet, toxic cosmetics, tanning salons, drugs, smoking, alcohol, dehydration, and sleep, all play crucial roles in your overall complexion. One cannot expect to maintain a beautiful complexion if the poor lifestyle choices you make overpower that of your good ones

What are the Contra-indications for Infrared Saunas?

  • If you have a disease, be certain to consult with a primary-care physician concerning it.
  • If you are using any prescription drugs, check with your physician or pharmacist for any possible change in the drug's effect due to any interaction with infrared energy.
  • It is considered inadvisable to raise the core temperature in someone with adrenal suppression and systemic lupus erythematosus or multiple sclerosis, by some authorities.
  • If you have a recent (acute) joint injury, it should not be heated for the first 48 hours after an injury or until the hot and swollen symptoms subside. If you have a joint or joints that are chronically hot and swollen, these joints may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind. Vigorous heating is strictly contra-indicated in cases of enclosed infections be they dental, in joints or in any other tissues.
  • If you are pregnant or suspect you may be, discontinue your sauna use. Finnish women use their saunas, which don't throw heat as deeply into the body, for only 6~12 minutes and reportedly leave at that time, due to perceived discomfort. Their usage at this low level of intensity is not linked to birth defects. Infrared Thermal System usage may be 2~3 times more intense, and comparatively shorter 2~6 minute sessions hardly seem worth any minimal risk they may present.
  • Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared rays and thus are not heated by this system, nevertheless you should consult your surgeon prior to using Infrared Thermal System. Certainly, the usage of Infrared Thermal System must be discontinued if you experience pain near any such implants. Silicone does absorb infrared energy. Implanted silicone or silicone prostheses for nose or ear replacement may be warmed by the infrared rays. Since silicone melts at over 200°C (392°F), it should not be adversely affected by the usage of Infrared Thermal System. It is still advised that you check with your surgeon and possibly a representative from the product manufacture to be certain.
  • Heating of the low back area of women during the menstrual period may temporarily increase their menstrual flow. Once a woman is aware that this may occur, she can choose to allow herself to possible experience this short term effect without worry or to simply avoid Infrared Thermal System usage at that time of her cycle.
  • Hemophiliacs and anyone predisposed to hemorrhage should avoid Infrared Thermal System usage or any type of heating that would induce vasodilatation, which can potentate the tendency to bleed.
  • Obviously, should any condition worsen with use of an Infrared treatment, the use of the system should be discontinued.
  • People do not experience pain using Infrared Thermal Systems unless such is contraindicated. If you do, the use of radiant heat is clearly inappropriate for you at that time.
  • DO NOT attempt to self-treat any disease with this Infrared Thermal System without direct supervision of a physician.
